June is here and the latest report from Busch stadium is: the Cardinals are in first place and this month they will be opening it back up to full capacity! As usual, they are behind the church, we have been at full capacity for a while now and Jesus is still undefeated! The best part, you do not need tickets to get in at Zion and all seats come with a great view, not of the preacher, but of His glory! Come and be refreshed this Sunday, after the week you have had you deserve it.
Speaking of views, I noticed the older I get the less I like looking in a mirror and seeing my reflection. The old man looking back at me is looking older each time I brush my teeth, or shave. I hardly recognize him these days. It is hard to believe that I could get any older but alas with each year I see the old man in the mirror getting older. I notice the younger generation love looking into the mirror. This is true especially in the gym. There is a whole wall made totally of mirrors you have to walk by as you enter the room, and another wall made of, you guessed it, mirrors in the back of the room. Therefore, you cannot escape yourself, and the majority of those who choose to exercise there would not have it any other way. I watch them as they exercise, not just catching a glimpse of themselves, but starring at them-selves in the large mirrors at the gym. There is another mirror that reflects not the outside of us but the inside. James 1:23-25 speaks of this mirror; it is the Word of God. His word will reflect what is inside us and if we do not heed what it shows us, we will be guilty of being a hearer of the word and not a doer. As a mirror shows my flaws, so does the Bible show my sins. Now I cannot take away many of the flaws I see in the mirror, but the sins the Bible reveal in me I can confess and repent and have them all wiped away! Forgiven, washed away and cleansed by His blood! Moreover, the ageing I see in the mirror in my face, all I can do there is to embrace it. I thank God that the mirror of His Word brings life while the mirror in my bathroom cannot bring life, it does show me how long I have lived and how far He has carried me. I leave the mirror of His Word this morning thankful for the life it brings me, and I head to the bathroom to deal with the other mirror. I look at the guy staring at me, smile and say to myself “Well, at least I have a new toothbrush!” Looking at the man in the mirror, Pastor.
